Best Makeup For Acne

Liquid foundations have been used for many years and very popular. They come in brands for every budget and are easy to use. Most lines contain a pretty good variety of colors that can match most skin tones.

There are some pros and cons to using liquid foundation…

Pros: easy to use, provides good coverage and includes ingredients that protect the skin. Some contain sunscreens and acne fightin ingredients. My favorite is Neutogrena clear skin formula. Contains 2% salicylic acid which isn’t enough to fight serious cystic ance, but works quite well for blackheads and mild acne. The best thing about this product is it is good for your skin, will not aggravate acne and is the most natural looking liquid foundation for acne I have used. Great for teens who don’t want to look like they are wearing foundation.

Cons: Can look unnatural if put on incorrectly. Can run when humid, sweating or wet. Some have chemicals that can irritate skin. They don’t last as long as mineral makeup and dry and thicken with time.

Mineral Makeup:

Most of these come in a powder form but there are some in liquid today as well.

I have been using mineral makeup for years and I love it. This makeup used to be fairly expensive but the prices have come down with the recent surge in mineral make up lines. It seems everyone today ahs a mineral make up powder foundation, but are they all the same?

Like everything, they are not all same in terms of quality and ingredients, and you may need to experiment with what looks best on your skin. The higher end brands have finely milled powders and more shade options for the most natural look. Some of the less expensive drug store brands also contain talc or other ingredients that irritate skin, while the higher end mineral makeup lines are pure minerals.

The better known mineral makeup brands may seem expensive at first, but I can assure you they last an incredibly long time. High quality mineral makeup covers so well that you need a very small amount and the pigments in the blush and eyeshadows are so rich you get incredible color with a tiny amount of powder.

A few other lines have a liquid mineral make up option for those that prefer a liquid. I gave only tried a couple but personally have found these too thick and unnatural looking for my taste; however, but if you prefer a liquid you may want to give one a try. Just be sure to check the ingredients carefully on the liquid mineral foundations as many of them contain moisturizers and ingredients that can aggravate acne.

Here are some top selling brands of Mineral Makeup...

Bare Escentuals' bareMinerals SPF 15 Foundation: I started with Bare Escentuals' bareMinerals SPF 15 Foundation which was the first mineral makeup I tried and has been a best seller for years. This is a very good product line and one I have used for years with good success. I first used this makeup after laser resurfacing surgery and can assure you it covers redness!

It's also non-irritating and does not cause acne. One advantage of bareMinerals is the company has been around for a while and are thriving inspite of recent competition. They have grown and their product lines is very large. Everyone should be able to find something they like in the Bare Escentuals. Their starter kit also includes application brushes that are the best I have ever used. They are soft and the brissels stay intact and these brushes are worth the extra money.

Currently they have 15 different foundation colors that can be mixed for a perfect match. They alos have eyeshadow, brow shadow, bronzers, blush and lip colors. They even have 2 skin pefecting poweders – one for acne and one for anti-aging than can be worn through the night.

Sheer Cover®. Another big seller that is currently sold on TV informercials is Sheer Cover®. This is another excellent product that uses an exclusive formula of light reflecting minerals, botanicals, sun protection and anti-oxidant green tea to help protect your skin from the premature aging.

This product line also includes a concealer cream that is remarkably light and can be used on acne prone skin. Sheer cover provides light, natural looking coverage for all skin types. They have an inexpensive starting kit with a money back guarantee that has made high end mineral makeup affordable for everyone.

I find this makeup more sheer than Bare Minerals which may be an advantage if you need light coverage, but Bare covers redness better on my face. Many prefer one over the other and you will just need to experiment and see which you like the best.

ColorScience: This is another excellent line of Mineral makeup sold in many salons. Their mineral makeup is all natural, comes in 100 shades and includes sunscreen of SPF 20. I love the light weight coverage that is natural looking and water resistant for great staying power. What I liked best about this product is their portable powder filled application brush that allows you to easily apply your mineral makeup on the go.
